“New online payment solution launched in Guyana”
– system developed in Trinidad and Tobago
– Guyana is its first foreign market

Guyanese businesses and the public at large are being introduced to a new, and what is being plugged as “a faster method of making payments during business transactions.
The online payment solution is called “WiPay”
It was launched in Trinidad and Tobago a year ago and is now making its way to Guyana.
According to Aldwyn Wayne, Chief Executive Officer of WiPay, the service is a complete payment platform which seeks to empower individuals and businesses to make and accept payments online from anyone, anywhere, and at any time using Credit Card, Bank Account and soon Cash Vouchers.
Wayne says since the launch a number of government agencies in Trinidad and Tobago has already begun using the service.
“…We have the support from the government and a couple of ministries by the ending of this year would also be using the system” …” we are hoping to have the same support here in Guyana, I think it is the right time for us to be here” Wayne said.
He added that the Caribbean states face challenges with digital payments and the lack of financial inclusion for the majority of persons, however, with WiPay, this has changed allowing for secure, flexible and simple use.
Here in Guyana, WiPay has been given the go-ahead by the government.
Andre Griffith, who represented the Ministry of Public Telecommunication at the launch of WiPay on Thursday at the Pegasus Hotel, said the government remains committed to innovation and therefore appreciates anything to enhance the lives of its citizens and consumers.
“In the line of legislation government will do its part to ensure new businesses have a clear pathway,” Griffith said
Thus far companies such as Bill Express and Caribbean Airlines have already signed on to use the new payment system.
