NIS public day – April 5
─ following massive response at govt outreach
DPI, Guyana, Thursday, March 28, 2019
Following the tremendous response at the government outreach on March 27, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) has decided to host a similar exercise at their head office.
This was disclosed by Assistant Public Relations Officer, Takesha Whyte during an invited comment with the Department of Public Information (DPI). According to Whyte, since the response during the outreach was so overwhelming “we have decided to host an open day on the fifth in our compound from 09:30hrs and where we will continue to deal with persons having issues with NIS.”
Whyte described the outreach as successful since they were able to assist various persons with several issues. She highlighted that most persons were able to check their contributions and follow up on their eligibility for a pension.
“There were some persons that had queries who would have applied for their pensions, but they did not receive it on time, so we were able to advise them on what were the delays in the processing of the pension,” she said.
Several other agencies like the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) opted to have separate open days to assist persons who were unable to receive their services during the March 27 exercise. CH&PA hosted a continuation of the exercise on Thursday right at the Square of the Revolution.
The “Bringing the Government to the People” initiative hosted on March 27 received tremendous positive feedback from citizens, and saw thousands of Guyanese having their matters of concerns addressed by government ministers and heads of the various departments and agencies. It also provided the opportunity for the public to interact with the officials.
