DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, July 3, 2019

“One good term deserves another.”

This was the message brought by Public Security Minister, Khemraj Ramjattan to the residents of Enmore during a community meeting this afternoon.

The minister told residents that there has been more development under the Coalition government in the past four years when compared to the opposition’s 23-year rule.

Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan addressing the residents of Enmore at the community meeting.

He said that the development could be felt in every aspect.

He noted that the security sector is more robust; piracy is a thing of the past as this was rampant before the current administration took office. The Public Security Minister said the government is working along with its Surinamese counterparts to ensure pirates who committed crimes in the past faced the brunt of the law.

“We have kept surveillance on all the crooks,” the minister stated.

He pointed to the fact that Guyana’s Police Force (GPF) is now better equipped to tackle crime alluding to the fact that crimes are being solved at a much faster rate to what occurred in the past. He added that Guyana is now equipped to do DNA testing, which can aid in crime solving. The minister also pointed out that the government, in collaboration with international agencies, has put a massive dent in the drug trade.

He explained to the residents that the closure of the sugar estates was a corrective move by the government as billions were being plugged into an ailing industry which has been, for decades, heavily reliant on the State’s support. Further, he urged them not to fall prey to the lies being peddled by members of the opposition.

He also highlighted the recent reports by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and NASDAQ Index, respectively, that validated this administration’s efforts to build a better country and named Guyana as the country with the fastest-growing economy in the world.

The Public Security Minister also assured the residents that “better days are coming,” referring to the revenues that will accrue from the production of oil in the next few months. The government, he stressed, will invest the money back into the economy and back into the development of Guyanese.

“We will take that revenue and ensure our public servants get a better deal… We are going to ensure that it comes back to the people,” the minister underscored.

Following several government outreaches throughout the country, the administration is continuing to engage directly with citizens through community meetings. These settings allow residents to raise concerns affecting them and make recommendations.

Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally, Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan, Minister of Business, Haimraj Rajkumar, Minister of Social Cohesion, with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. George North and Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Jaipaul Sharma were also a part of the meeting at Enmore.
