Over 100 graduates from Carnegie School of Home Economics

Over one hundred students graduated today from the Carnegie School of Home Economics’ Craft Production and Design Division. The graduates completed various subject areas such as garment construction, general cosmetology, interior design, commercial food preparation, catering and hospitality and visual arts.
The ceremony was held at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) under the theme, “A step in the right direction.”
Delivering the feature address, Minister of Education, Dr. Nicolette Henry told the students the completion of their respective course demonstrates a positive advancement in their lives.
“Carnegie School of Home Economics has always stood as one of the leading training institutions that offer essential skills… So, it is very important for you to use your newly acquired skills to be creative with your knowledge for it is this that will set you apart and be your unique selling point for future employees or even as you open your own businesses,” Minister Henry said.
The Minister also commended the institution for continually expanding its curriculum to reflect the occupational standards and needs relevant to the economic expansion of Guyana.
She also urged the students to, “let your passion inform every decision you make as you pursue excellence in everything you do.”
The Carnegie School of Home Economics also offers certificate and diploma programmes that are accredited by the Ministry of Education and is open to both male and female students, including early school leavers.
The school, which was established by Scotsman, Andrew Carnegie, in 1933 as the Carnegie Trade School for Women was funded by the Carnegie Board of Trustees until the Government of Guyana assumed full responsibility for the entity in 1973.
