DPI, Guyana, Saturday, March 30, 2019

Coming from far and near, Guyanese once again flocked the Prospect New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, for a chance to view the model homes on display. The event was the second day of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) Open House Exhibition.

Many expressed satisfaction with the quality of the houses being built.

“I would surely invest in one of the houses. There is definitely land in which I can still have my little kitchen garden and even more,” one applicant said. “I am a single parent and I would live comfortably since the materials used to build these houses are quality materials.”

Some of the houses on show were furnished by the CH&PA team. Couples and families took the opportunity to interact with the various contractors.

One of the assigned contractors, Andre Howard, from Howard Construction said that the initiative gives Guyanese the opportunity to live comfortably.

“A lot of persons are coming out, especially women, and children and I am pleased to know that they have a chance through this project to turn the key to their own home,” Howard said.

He said that his company constructed two of the low-income and two middle-income houses. The contractor said his housing designs have received positive feedback from the public and he will be further collaborating with CH&PA for future housing projects.

According to the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), more than fifty percent of Guyanese are applying for house lots within the low- income bracket and to provide for those applicants the Agency will collaborate with a number of Private Developers to make that possible.

The price range starts at $4 Million, $6 Million and $9 Million. However, in the future, CH&PA will move beyond single units and duplexes and add condominiums to the housing developments.

The houses measuring 400 square feet each, and features two standard size bedrooms, bath and washroom area, kitchen and living room space and a small patio which stands on a plot of land measuring 40 by 80 feet.

The Exhibition which commenced on Friday will continue on Sunday from 10am to 6pm at Prospect New Housing Scheme, EBD.
