Presents and Yuletide Greetings for citizens.

−Govt Ministers spend Friday afternoon at Stabroek Square.

In what is now becoming a customary event, Ministers of Government on Friday gathered at the Stabroek Square in downtown Georgetown, spreading Christmas cheer in the form of presents for both adults and children, and extending best wishes to busy shoppers traversing the area.

From approximately 2:30pm Friday, the ministers began arriving with goodies in hand and large boxes. The items ranged from both toys and games for the children and a few surprises for the adults.

Speaking with the Department of Public Information, (DPI), the Hon. Volda Lawrence, Minister of Public Health, said it was good to be outside as all-year-round Ministers are usually in their offices working around the clock.

“We are in our various departments in the various regions trying to ensure that the service which we are called upon to provide our people, that is being done.” Minister Lawrence stated.

She added that a Guyanese Christmas in Guyana is unique.  “Christmas in Guyana is a time for family and friends.” … “It was good wishing everyone Merry Christmas, meeting with the vendors, meeting with the business people.” Minister Lawrence added.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Security, the Hon. Khemraj Ramjattan, who also took a stroll through Stabroek Market, greeting both shoppers and sellers took time to wish Guyanese everywhere a Merry Christmas.

“I want to wish every Guyanese especially those around me here, at Stabroek, an especially Happy Christmas and of course a very prosperous New Year that will follow.” … “And of I want them to be very moderate in their festivities because it is primarily a religious occasion.” Ministers Ramjattan noted.

Both Ministers Ramjattan and Lawrence urged Guyanese to be careful on the nations’ roads.

Minister of Indigenous Peoples Affairs, Sydney Allicock also extended wished to the nation.   “To all the citizens in Georgetown and Guyana, this is a time for happiness, this is a time we observe the birth of Jesus. All Guyanese celebrate and look forward to this time of the year, especially after a whole year of hard work, a whole year of seeing things happening to improve the country,” he stated.

Other government ministers present at Stabroek included; Ministers, Dr. Nicolette Henry, David Patterson, Tabitha Sarabo-Halley, Keith Scott and Winston Felix.
