—Fake social media post condemned
DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, April 1, 2020
Contrary to a post being circulated on Facebook, His Excellency President David Granger has not contracted COVID-19.
In a post on the Ministry of the Presidency’s social media page, it stated that “President David Granger is not afflicted with the Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) and is enjoying good health.”
President Granger continues to work daily to lead the nation through this difficult time.
The Ministry condemned the post deeming it “distasteful” given the fact that Guyana’s death toll has risen to three as a result of the pandemic.
The Ministry also encouraged persons to refrain from causing public panic and to utilise their public voices and platforms responsibly.
Earlier today the Head of State participated in a virtual conference hosted by the National Coronavirus Task Force (NCTF) to discuss a national response to the virus.
The meeting of ministers which was chaired by the Hon. Moses Nagamootoo agreed to several stringent measures to be implemented shortly to contain the virus.
