Press Release – Permanent Representative to UN Presents Letters of Credence to Secretary-General

Her Excellency Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, today formally presented her Letters of Credence to the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), His Excellency António Guterres, becoming the first female and first indigenous person to be appointed as Permanent Representative of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to the UN with the rank and quality of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

During the accreditation ceremony, the Permanent Representative extended greetings from the President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd. Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett also pledged Guyana’s support for the work of the United Nations and the Secretary-General’s reform initiatives.

Today’s ceremony finalises the accreditation process following a virtual accreditation held on October 2, 2020.
