Public Affairs Minister donates computer gear to East Coast entrepreneur

Georgetown, Guyana — (April 4, 2019) Minister of Public Affairs, Mrs. Dawn Hastings-Williams, yesterday, presented a quantity of computer supplies to Mr. Daniel Pile, a young entrepreneur of Eastville Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.   Mr. Pile, who has a number of physical disabilities, did not allow that to dampen his dream of providing for himself and he earned several certificates in Information Technology and Computer Science before seeking employment.

In an invited comment, Mr. Pile said that after meeting President David Granger at the ‘We Strive for Greatness’ Camporee,’ in 2016, he wrote to him seeking employment. Minister Hastings-Williams said in considering the request, she had several conversations with Mr. Pile, during which she discovered that ultimately, he wanted to become an entrepreneur.  As such, in keeping with the Government’s policy to create education and skills training opportunities for young people to become productive citizens, a decision was taken to provide “a start” for the young man.

“We [the government] are committed to creating jobs opportunities’ for young people. We do not want you to be left out and the Government of Guyana will continue to support you and young person’s such as yourself,” the Minister said.

She then presented a quantity of items to Mr. Pile, including one Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop computer; one HP® Officejet Pro 7740 printer, one ThinkCentre M73 mini tower system and two back-up batteries.  Minister Hastings-Williams then committed to further supporting Mr. Pile’s efforts to establish his business.

In response, Mr. Pile said that he appreciated the Government’s support in helping to create opportunities for himself.  “I feel happy that the President has helped me. I’m happy that I got through with everything and I’m excited,” he said.
