Region 3 women leaders receive training
DPI, GUYANA, Thursday, April 26, 2018
Women leaders in Region Three are undergoing leadership training.
The fourth in a series of training workshops to enhance the leadership skills of women active in their Local Democratic Organs (LDOS) was opened this morning in the boardroom of the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Regional Democratic Council boardroom at Vreed-en-Hoop.
Minister of Public Affairs Dawn Hastings-Williams in her remarks at the opening ceremony expressed the wish to see more women assuming leadership roles at the local government level and assisting in the development of their community.
She noted that while there have been significant strides concerning the inclusion of female leaders in government, there still needs to be a female presence at the local decision-making level. This Hastings-Williams noted will be an indicator of the administration’s move to accomplish gender equity in all facets of government.
The two-day workshop is organised by the Guyana Women’s Leadership Institute under the purview of the Ministry of Social Protection. It will address laws of local government, organisational skills for development and team building for success.
