SBB sensitisation programme to be taken countrywide
DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, March 14, 2018
The Small Business Bureau (SBB) will be conducting several sensitisation programmes for residents in Corriverton, Rosehall and New Amsterdam in Regions Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), as well as communities in Region Five, Mahaica-Berbice; during the first two weeks in April, to educate them on the services offered by the agency.
Research and Marketing Officer of SBB, Shamane Headley said, “We (SBB) know a lot of persons are still not familiar with the services we offer…we will be meeting directly with the members of the community in Berbice. The entrepreneurs, youths, housewives or anyone interested in starting a business and need more information; we will meet with them to discuss what SBB has to offer.”
Headley explained the agency will begin conducting the sensitisation programmes in Region Five since one of the business incubators is being established at the Belvedere Estate.
“We would like to have feedback from the community members on what are their needs of the business incubator before we make any final decision as to what we will put within the structure when it is completed,” Headley explained.
In an earlier interview, Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin, disclosed that infrastructural works are moving apace on the Lethem and Belvedere Industrial Estates, and his ministry is aiming to complete the two projects, in the first half of 2018.
The estates aim to provide appropriate space for young entrepreneurs, and small enterprises to utilise as a startup for their businesses. This will allow for the engagement of certain types of activities and attract investments in the value-added sectors.
However, the minister noted the incubators will not serve as a permanent space for these businesses as the aim is to assist them in maximizing their effort to be better able to venture on their own.
