Information on how to take care of your health is now more accessible as the Ministry of Public Health hosts its second ‘Health Expo’. The expo, which opened on Wednesday, is being held under the theme ‘Reaching for a better life with good health’ at the Sophia Exhibition Centre.

The expo provides access to all health care services from both the public and private sector. This is an opportunity Guyanese should take advantage of as the expo runs until June 8, 2019, and goes until 22:00hrs.

Permanent Secretary to the Public Health Ministry, Collette Adams, in brief remarks at the opening of the expo, said that persons should capitalize on medical checkups done and interactions with medical practitioners right at the expo.

She noted that it will have essential medicines available at affordable prices. Adams also highlighted that the Draft National Medicine Policy would be available to the public. Patrons can also benefit from a series of lectures from qualified professionals. “Guyana’s health care system is on a momentum as we continue to build a resilient healthcare system that is accessible, equitable, patient-centred, appropriate and timely.”

Young people are being encouraged to visit the expo and check out the adolescence booth. There they can speak to peer educators on several areas including safe sex and alcohol abuse, among others. The peer educators are young and vibrant, and President of the Georgetown Peer Educators, Shaniece Thom promises a visit will be worthwhile. “We are your educators, we are your motivators, we are your role models and we want people to feel comfortable… We are not only having educational talks; we are having educational games too.”

The expo also provides public access to critical medical services. Access to the exhibition is free, and persons are advised to seize the opportunity.
