DPI, Guyana, Thursday, August 6, 2020
Preparing to settle into his newly appointed position, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon Charles Ramson Jr. said his first order of business will be to organise sports across the country.
Minister Ramson Jr. noted that over 60 percent of the country’s population is comprised of young people who are very involved and integral to the Sports sector so this approach is necessary for the further development of the sector.
“What you will have with me and this cabinet is young strong voices being represented,” he told DPI.
Under the previous government, several projects in the sector were completed including the rehabilitation of 674 community grounds across the country via the Department of Sport’s ground enhancement project; two new synthetic tracks in Region 6 (East Berbice Corentyne) and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) are soon to be completed and a National Athletes database was established among other initiatives.
