Taushida village gets $3.5M for road rehab

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure on Thursday, 23 January, 2020 handed over $3.5 Million to Carlon Francis the Toshao of Taushida, Region 9 to facilitate the rehabilitation of the community’s main access road.

The Ministry of Public Telecommunications also donated food hampers and football gear to the Toshao and Karasabi’s District Development Officer, Marlon Edwards

The Taushida Village Council in the South Pakaraima Sub-District of Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo had reached out to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure for assistance in clearing the bush along their Main Access Road into their village.

Toshao Francis noted, “This is a remote village, and it is a great distance from the capital of Region 9, Lethem so we are very much appreciative of the contribution presented to us today.”

According to Marlon Edwards, “The bushes along the road have grown and started covering the road, causing a problem for the villagers and others traversing the road.”

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure noted that $3.5Million is in accordance with Clause 29 of the Procurement Act, Procurement through Community Participation.

“As we advance as a nation and seek to continuously link the hinterland to the coastal region, the MoPI will continue to assist and transform the infrastructural landscape of Guyana,” Minister Patterson remarked
