The UN is 75
-video essay competition launched locally
The United Nations (UN) in Guyana has launched a video essay competition for youth ages 8 to 16 in commemoration of the organisation’s 75th anniversary being observed today.
The essay is to be based on the youth’s vision of the world in the next 25 years. The submission deadline is November 13, 2020.
The United Nations is this year celebrating its 75th anniversary year under the theme: “The Future We Want; the UN We Need: Reaffirming Our Collective Commitment to Multilateralism”.
A release from the UN office in Barbados noted that since its ratification in 1945, the UN has been working collectively towards sustainable development across the world.
“Countless programmes that centre on poverty reduction, improving citizen security, advancing gender equality and promoting climate action have been successfully implemented and executed across the Caribbean.
Highlighting the organisation’s commitment to cooperation, multilateralism, global solidarity and improving lives, this year’s observance comes at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic reminds us that we are all interconnected and that only through collaboration can we build a resilient and sustainable future for all,” it stated.
Other anniversary celebrations in the region include the “Youth Voices Rising” dialogue event from 1:30pm today and a 75th anniversary virtual concert starting at 7pm tomorrow. Both will be livestreamed on uwitv.org and facebook.com/UNBarbadosandOECS
