11 days of celebration for Linden Town Week 2019

The launch of Linden Town Week (LTW 2019), to be held on Sunday 21, April, will kick off with a grand cultural extravaganza, officially heralding in 11 days of activities that will culminate May 1.
LTW 2019 is being hosted by the Linden Mayor and Town Council (LMTC) and will be celebrated under the theme, “Rekindling our Culture”. It is the most anticipated event of the year for Lindeners, and would usually attract hundreds of visitors to the mining town, many of whom travel from abroad to experience the Linden version of fun. Activities commenced today with a boat cruise up the Demerara River.
The calendar of events for LTW 2019, has activities that can be enjoyed by all from the young to the old, from sport fanatics to party goers, churchgoers to fashionistas.
On Sunday, a church service will be held before the official opening ceremony. Monday’s activities will begin with a women-in-business seminar and finish with a gospel fest in the evening, featuring international gospel artistes. Other highlights for the rest of the LTW include poetry, folklore and storytelling, and art exhibitions, Golden Taste Glow party and On the Spot Art, Rasville Breakfast on the Sand Linden All Black Party, a Caribbean Food Festival and Children’s Fest and the Main Big Lime.
In addition to these events, the week will be filled with sporting activities such as the Guinness in the Street football competitions, cricket, basketball and circle tennis contests as well as athletics. Students will participate in a spelling bee, debating and essay competitions. There will also be exhibitions such as the Caribbean Food Festival, and a Farmer’s Market, throughout the week various dining houses will host a Restaurant Day.
This year, Linden will be celebrating 49 years as a town. The economy of Linden is expected to take a boost as the boutiques will be busy, restaurants and hotels will be fully booked, bars will be overflowing with people and designers will be busy taking in scores of orders.
