DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, April 24, 2019
Guyana continues to move towards the path of a green economy, as the Office of Climate Change (OCC) recently received approval for $631M (US $3M) for Bartica to be distributed as loans and grants to pursue green projects.
Minister of State, Joseph Harmon made this announcement, on Sunday, at the 2019 Bartica Regatta.
“Here in Bartica, you can see the Bartica Boardwalk, the improved community centre ground, better roads, better sanitation, improved ICT infrastructure and a new radio station… All of this is set within a programme to make Bartica a model green town.”
The State Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure not only in Bartica but across the country which will enable the good life for all.
In an invited comment, Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall expressed his gratitude towards OCC noting that they have been very supportive of the initiative. According to him “they would have been working tirelessly to ensure that we achieve our objective… this grant is another step in the right direction…another effort towards us achieving our green agenda.”
The Mayor had previously said that Bartica has the potential to become the tourism capital of Guyana noting that the council is working assiduously to ensure that potential is met while enforcing a ‘green’ agenda.
