Another health centre commissioned at #76 Village
DPI, Guyana, Friday, April 5, 2019
In keeping with President David Granger’s vision to have health care facilities in every district, another was on Thursday commissioned at Number 76 Village Corriverton, Corentyne, Region Six.
The facility was constructed and fully furnished at a cost of $16M.
Number 76 Village is a relatively new housing scheme, which is located off the main road, and has a population of approximately 3,000 residents.
East Berbice-Corentyne’s Director of Regional Health Services (RHS), Jevaughn Andrew Stephen noted that the RHS has “found it fit with the blessings” of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and the Ministry of Public Health to guarantee that a centre is constructed in the heart of the new village. “This exercise is a testimony to the region’s commitment to improving health care delivery, especially at the primary level in East Bank Berbice,” Stephen noted.
This health centre has all the necessary departments needed for primary health care.
Stephen urged the residents to ensure that this project is properly maintained and sustained. “Health Services can only be effective if we have all stakeholders on board as we forge a network of integrated health services delivery.”
Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings, while addressing the gathering said:
“The health and wellbeing of our nation’s people is in the main concern of the Ministry of Public Health.”
Minister Cummings urged the males in the community to make use of the various services offered at the public hospitals. In this regard, she urged those in and around the village to visit the health centre at least once a week.
“Most times we focused on the women’s health, but in most homes, the men are the breadwinners and they also need to be encouraged to take care of their health.”
Like Stephen, Minister Cummings exhorted the residents to care the facility and work with the Regional Health Services to bring about a healthy and wealthy Guyana.
