Barimanobo commits to focusing on development

─ complain of non-representation by the opposition-led RDC

─ “The Coalition is people-centred; we are solutions-oriented” – Min. Cummings

Residents of Barimanobo, in the Mabaruma Sub District, Region 1, on Saturday, committed to each other to abandon party lines and focus on the development of their community and region.

The calls were made during a community meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dr. Karen Cummings, as part of a more extensive fanout exercise by various ministers in the Mabaruma sub-region.

One resident, a firefighter, was among those very vocal at the meeting. He told Minister Cummings about the underdevelopment of his community, Barimanobo, and blaming it on political opposition, interference and non-cooperation. “Things will only happen if we cooperate and forget about politics… It’s time we realise we are losing all the time, right now we should forget about party lines and focus on development.”

However, while they publicly expressed worry that they could be victimised by the opposition-led RDC for being vocal about matters which affected them – the residents of Barimanobo pledged that each would carefully consider what was best for the community.

Meanwhile, other residents commended the Coalition Government for its push to have farmers in the community form a Co-op Society, and for working to establish pipe-borne water in Barimanobo. The administration was also applauded for the new fire station which will be operational in a few short months.

Minister Cummings, in response to the concerns raised, praised the residents for voicing their issues and assured that the government is working swiftly to bring about much-needed improvements in Barimanobo.

“The Coalition is people-centred; we are solutions-oriented… We depend on you to make a change and be engaged in the process and be part of the process of that change. I am optimistic that things are going to get better,” Minister Cummings assured the residents.
