The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, on Wednesday, opened its doors for a public day giving persons the opportunity to meet with Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson as they sought resolutions to issues of concern to them.

Residents from Chinoweng, Region 7 took full advantage of the opportunity and highlighted the need for easy access to medivac services which requires the construction of a new airstrip in the community.

The Rights Coordinator for the Amerindian Peoples’ Association, Laura George said residents, over the years, have faced difficulty to get patients to Chichi West airstrip, Region 7 and that the village council has been trying to get the needed funds to upgrade the makeshift airstrip within the community.

In response, Minister Ferguson said that her team will visit the Region 7 community to consult with the Toshao and conduct the necessary assessment for the requested airstrip.

“Going forward, in our planning as a ministry would cause us to rethink our strategies whenever we are doing projects in communities, we must collaborate, we must cooperate and most importantly consult,” Minister Ferguson said.

The minister and a team will be visiting Chinoweng in February to conceptualize the project with the hope of choosing the best suitable location for residents.
