─ “govt was brought down by a single act of treachery”
─ “the Govt did not betray their constituents”
DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, January 29, 2019
Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo said that the Alliance for Change (AFC) has expressed full confidence in the continued leadership of President Granger and Prime Minister Nagamootoo.
During an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI), Prime Minister Nagamootoo explained that he is satisfied with the expression of support, by the Alliance for Change (AFC), for the sitting President and Prime Minister as the combination, to take Guyana forward. These sentiments, he noted, came out of the AFC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Saturday, January 26, 2019.
“It is important at this time for, the party from which I have come, the Alliance for Change (AFC) to express confidence in their Prime Minister and to express this confidence that those people who voted for us are assured of our continued leadership,” the Prime Minister said.
Additionally, he explained that the APNU+AFC Government in 2015, received the support of more than 206,000 Guyanese and is committed to keeping the promises made to them.
“We have not betrayed our constituents, we have done nothing that would have curtailed our mandate. This government was brought down by a single act of treachery, by someone who crossed the floor, by someone who betrayed the voters,” he expressed.
Moreover, the Prime Minister said, “I am very pleased with the leadership of the AFC, that they have found it necessary and important now to embrace their state leaders, the president and the prime minister; to embrace the David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo combo. It is good for Guyana to have this image of a leadership that is strong, mature and experienced.”
The Prime Minister pointed out that the leadership of the AFC feels that the government has done nothing to bring itself down. The government, he noted, was betrayed and is now prepared to go to the Guyanese people with renewed confidence.
“We are going to go forward, we will press as much as we can have time within the framework of all that is taking place in the courts, before an election, to do as much as we can to fulfil those promises we have made to our people.”
He noted that President Granger has brought integrity to our governance.
“I believe that the Guyanese people deserve this leadership. I am satisfied, the party has done the right thing,” the prime minister emphasised.
