Hon Persaud to share Int’l virtual stage with US Vice President at CSW65
– To represent CARICOM at UN’s largest gathering on women’s rights
Hon Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security will join a number of high profile speakers on March 16 at the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65) – the UN’s largest gathering on gender equality and women’s rights in New York, USA.
The virtual two-week long (March 15 to 26) gathering for UN Member States, civil society organizations, gender experts, and other international actors aims to build consensus and agree on a roadmap to advance gender equality, with the focus this year on the theme, “Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”.
Hon Persaud’s 11-minute message will reflect the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) perspective and will focus, inter alia, on women’s participation in leadership and decision-making; implementation of gender quotas in politics; the elimination of violence against women and girls and the ongoing commitment to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
Other high-profile speakers to address the Commission tomorrow include US Vice-President Kamala Harris; European Commissioner For International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen; Minister Of State For The Presidency, Portugal (on behalf of the European Union) Mariana Vieira Da Silva, among others.
