The residents of Agricola showed up in their numbers to meet with Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Valerie Adams-Yearwood to discuss housing opportunities. The meeting was held on Wednesday at St. Ann’s Primary School in Agricola and formed part of a larger Ministerial Outreach that covered the 15 constituencies in the city of Georgetown.

Among the topics discussed were the various projects on stream by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), homeowners’ qualifications; the regularisation of squatting areas and the steps to apply for housing subsidies.

Minister Adams-Yearwood said since the Coalition Government assumed office, they have provided more opportunities for people who have not yet attained lots because of the disadvantages created by the previous PPP government.

Due to the prevalence of unregularised homeowners, persons were unqualified to receive opportunities provided by CP&HA. The minister urged unregularised owners of house lots to begin their process of regularisation to benefit from opportunities such as the CH&PA Core Houses Programme that provide homes valued at $4M and the Subsidies programme which gives homeowners with the amount of $500,000 to carry out repairs or construct their houses.

Minister Yearwood noted that the subsidies are not repayable, and persons should take advantage of it.

“Get up and get what you want. Your government is ready to support you.” the Housing Minister said.

After the meeting, the residents were given opportunities to provide housing letters to the minister and her team for further assistance.
