• Senior officials introduced to Exponential Technologies

The Ministry of Public Telecommunications is moving towards incorporating the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in every aspect of business in Guyana.

This was disclosed by Minister Catherine Hughes as she addressed a forum on Exponential Technologies hosted this morning at the Marriott Hotel.

Internet access and broadband connectivity, the Public Telecommunications Minister noted, are now considered a human right, making reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9.

In this vein, the Government is moving towards a digital economy, which will ultimately lead to an ease in doing business.  She noted that “the more we include ICT in the way we transact our businesses…the better and the faster we are going to able to transform Guyana.”

Minister Hughes reiterated the Administration’s commitment of making accessible more than 100 government services online. These services include business registration, applying for driver’s license and passports.

Only last Friday, the Minister declared open two ICT hubs in Blairmont, Region Five and Black Bush Polder, Region Six, bringing the total to 119 hubs across Guyana.

She noted that over 150 schools have so far been connected to the internet with the Primary school connectivity project ongoing.

Heads of Government agencies and senior officials responsible for the implementation of the Government’s E-gov and technology initiatives were introduced to the concept of Exponential Technologies which involves the use of 3D printing, drones, robotics, artificial intelligence and more.
