“Information is power, a knowledge-driven society is power” – PM Nagamootoo
― Linden Broadcasting Network (LBN) commissioned
― Coalition Government delivers on its 2015 promise
DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, April 30, 2019
Today was a historic day for Lindeners as Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo, who has the responsibility for Public Information, officially handed over the Linden Broadcasting Network (LBN) to the region.
The commissioning ceremony was held at LBN’s compound at Riverside Drive, Watooka. After a long wait of seven years for the issuance of the television station license for the Network, the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA) on March 1, 2019, presented the letter of approval to the secretary of the Trust Company of the station.
According to the Prime Minister, the handover of the LBN to the town for its ownership and management was part of an agreement which the previous administration did not honour.
However, “the vision came back when the Coalition Government took office in 2015, a commitment was made very early,” the Prime Minister stated.
He explained that “I spoke with the GNBA’s Chairman Leslie Sobers and told him Linden is ready and he said I have the document in my hand.”
Prime Minister Nagamootoo further explained that “Communication, information and knowledge is power; this is also the view of President David Granger. He believes that bridging the country through the establishment of regional radio stations and television stations is one way to educate our citizens.”
“This is power, the source of information is power, a knowledge-driven society is power; this is our vision for Guyana,” he emphasised.
LBN’s Chairman Remis Morian and Member of Parliament and LBN’s secretary, Jermaine Figueira, both expressed their gratitude to the Government for delivering on its promise.
Present at the commissioning ceremony was new Director General of the Ministry of the Presidency and former State Minister Joseph Harmon, Ministers of Government, other officials and residents of Linden.
