DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, July 24, 2018
The infrastructural development in Providence and Peter’s Hall communities on the East Bank of Demerara undertaken by Central Planning and Housing Authority (CH&PA) are progressing smoothly.
Director of Projects, Omar Narine told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that the project is on schedule, despite being impeded by the June/July rainfall. Narine assured that the agency is working assiduously to complete the works within the time promised.
“As it relates to Providence and Peter’s Hall … the works are definitely scheduled to pick up in August and September. I do not foresee the project being delayed further,” Narine said.
Works commenced in June and are expected to be completed within next five months, in November. The scope of the project entails the construction of 5.4km of crusher-run roads, construction of 10.4 earthen drains, construction of 47 concrete culverts, and insulation of 5.4km pure water distribution network.
Narine explained that CH&PA is currently undertaking the drainage works, installation of the culverts, building of the access bridges among other factors slated to be completed. “In the earlier part of June, when the rains were not as intense, we would have completed some or most of the excavation works. We have first base materials for the road so that we can have access and completed a second land clearing.”
He stated that the residents will be able to access both communities via Cacique Road which is slated for further upgrades. This stretch of roadway runs north of Massy Stores on the East Bank of Demerara and leads into the housing schemes
The contractors commissioned for the project are Chung’s Global Enterprise, Guy-America Construction, Eron Lall Civil Engineering Works, Colin Talbot Contracting Services, H. Nauth & Sons, KB & B Contractors and Romell Jagroop General Construction Service.
