Message of His Excellency Brigadier David Granger, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr
Georgetown, Guyana – (July 06, 2016)
I extend joyous greetings to all Guyanese, but especially to the entire Muslim community, on the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Guyanese, all across our country, will join with Muslims in celebrating the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan. During the Holy Month, believers fasted and endured privation as part of the act of becoming closer to Allah and to identify with the suffering of their worldly brothers and sisters.
Self-denial and self-sacrifice are important virtues in building character. Eid-ul-Fitr also reminds us that the road to spiritual rectitude is often paved with sacrifices, sobriety and selflessness.
The fasting and prayer of the past month should strengthen the resolve of Muslims to work with their fellow Guyanese to build a more cohesive society and a happier country.
May the festivities of Eid-ul-Fitr renew our solidarity with our brothers and sisters and reinforce the bonds of unity among our people.
Eid Mubarak!
