DPI, Guyana, Saturday, December 14, 2019

Over 600 children in East Berbice had an early taste of Christmas as Minister of Education Dr. the Hon. Nicolette Henry hosted two Christmas parties in Region 6.

Showering the youngsters with gifts, delicious meals and snacks, Minister Henry also sang, danced and played putting smiles on the faces of everyone present.

Speaking briefly with the DPI the Minister said the event is one she intends to continue hosting especially in East Berbice since she has roots in Region 6. She noted the party is an excellent way to give back to the community in a large way and the reaction from the children at both locations confirmed that it was well appreciated and deserving.

“It certainly melts your heart to see so many smiles on the faces of the children so happy, so eager and to be able to put a smile on someone face must be something you take a lot of pride in and to be able to do it for 200 plus children at one time, is certainly a good feeling. They should enjoy the holidays and I asked that they be safe and have lots of fun.”

The parties were held at the Fyrish Primary and New Amsterdam Secondary School respectively. There were lots of games, Christmas carolling, poetry, dancing and a wide assortment of gifts for everyone.

Thirteen-year-old Jaden Singh was all smiles. “It was fun today and everybody enjoyed themselves… it felt like Christmas already.”
