New Sea and River Defence Board urged to facilitate Guyana’s development
Minister of Public Works, Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill has called on the newly constituted Board of Directors of the Sea and River Defence Board to help further Guyana’s development.
The Minister said the Board is immensely important to the country’s growth.
“We are facilitating business in Guyana. We are not obstructing business. So, when we come to this Board, and in our deliberations, it is not about giving people a hard time. It is about how to make it happen in keeping with the rules, ensuring compliance with our laws and ensuring that development takes place,” Minister Edghill said.
The Board is a significant multi-agency body which he encouraged to work for the modernisation of the country and to create linkages to other countries on the continent. The Board will play a critical role in industrialisation, expansion of manufacture sector, agro-processing and hotel construction and others.
“Our only interest must be prospering Guyana and you are an important pillar in facilitating that… Let us put our collective wisdom together and serve Guyana well,” the Minister said.
Brigadier Gary Beaton will chair the Board. In accepting the instrument of service, he indicated his willingness to work alongside the other directors with a high degree of professionalism.
The Board comprises members from the Central Housing and Planning Authority, the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Regional Democratic Councils, the private sector and others.
