No stoppage of Govt’s work
─ Budget 2019 already passed
─ Govt will proceed with programs and projects outlined for fiscal year 2019
DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, January 2, 2019
Citizens are being assured that the APNU-AFC Coalition Government remains in office as the 2019 Budget has been passed.
This assurance came from Finance Minister, Winston Jordan during an interview with the National Communications Network (NCN).
In light of the no-confidence motion which was voted on last month in the 111th Sitting of the National Assembly, Minister Jordan explained that the APNU-AFC Government is still in office and “will be a government until they are voted out of office”.
The minister said that the Coalition Government will proceed with programs and projects outlined for the fiscal year 2019.
“There is a budget for the fiscal year 2019… the whole of 2019” which was approved and passed. He added that “this is not a scenario where there is no budget and you are restricted to one-twelfth in accordance with the law.”
The Finance Minister further emphasized that “the Government of the day has to do things that are consistent with government work.”
The National Assembly, he said, will give credence to the various measures announced in the budget when it reconvenes on January 3. He explained that some measures are to be implemented by way of legislation so those would have to be debated in the National Assembly.
