Nomination Day: Smooth process says GECOM PRO
DPI, Guyana, Friday, January 10, 2020
Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Yolanda Ward says the process on Nomination Day concluded on a satisfactory note.
Today, political parties contesting the March 2 General and Regional Elections were given the opportunity to submit their list of candidates to GECOM at the Umana Yana in Kingston Georgetown.
According to Ward, apart from the smooth process the day only saw one political party having to return before the 17:00hrs curfew, due to an error in their submission.
“The list must be submitted in duplicate so they had to make other copies and return,” she disclosed.
The PRO said what remains is for the submissions to be reviewed by GECOM’s “administration subset and Information Technology subset to ensure that they (lists) meet the correct requirements.”
Should there be any enquires after this process, Ward noted that the political parties have until January 13 to resubmit their list to the election body.
In total 13 parties submitted their lists of candidates. Among them are A Partnership for National Unity and the Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), United Republican Party (URP), A New and United Guyana (ANUG), The New Movement (TNM), Liberty and Justice Party (LJP), The Citizenship Initiative (TCI), Organisation for the Victory of the People (OVP), the People’s Republic Party (PRP), Change Guyana, Fed UP party, National Independent Party (NIP) and Guyana National Service Party (GNSP).
