Radio Mabaruma 95.1FM back on air

Georgetown, GINA, July 25, 2016

Radio Mabaruma 95.1 FM, an affiliate of the National Communications Network (NCN) is now transmitting after being repaired over the weekend. The transmitting site located on Broomes Hill, Mabaruma, was hit by lightning during a heavy storm in that area, resulting in the station coming off air, just over one week ago.

A technical team from NCN was dispatched to Mabaruma to determine the extent of the damage and to conduct repairs to the transmitter dish which had its circuits damaged by the lightning strike. NCN has apologised to Region One residents for the inconvenience caused by the outage.

Radio Mabaruma was officially switched on air by Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo on June 11, 2016.

The radio station is geared towards facilitating a more inclusive vision for the people of the interior. It will also play a part in promoting local produce and commodities, while fostering development at both a personal and community level, according to the Prime Minister.
