DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, August 5, 2020
Regional Health Officer (RHO) of Region Seven, Dr. Edward Sagala, in a release issued on Wednesday confirmed that COVID-19 cases in Region Seven have now topped one hundred, after a revisit to Batavia and other areas in the region by a health team.
“As a result of the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in Batavia Village, a seven-member team visited the area on August 3, 2020, to conduct further screening and testing,” Dr. Sagala stated.
The team also visited Kartabo and Agatash on August 3 and River’s View, Iteballi and Karrau Creek on August 4.
A total of 76 tests were conducted during the August 3-4 period, yielding an increase of eight cases, thereby pushing the total cases in the region to 104; inclusive of two deaths as of August 4, 2020.
According to Dr. Sagala, the Health Emergency Operations Committee (HEOC) recently identified Bartica as a high-risk location for COVID-19 in Region Seven after data showed that persons who tested positive had contact with the area.
“Persons who tested positive for the disease have had contact with the community in one way or another. We continue to remind residents of the region not to let your guard down,” the RHO emphasised.
He also reminded residents to observe all COVID-19 precautions and to be responsible.
Visits to Wineperu, St. Mary’s Quarry and Issano Landing have been planned this week to conduct screening and testing, as part of the health team’s response of COVID-19 in the region.
