Relief for Moco Moco settlement farmers
─ Min. Adams-Yearwood delivers water pump, seeds farming gear
DPI, Guyana, Saturday, October 26, 2019
Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, with responsibility for Rural Affairs, Hon. Valerie Adams-Yearwood today, visited and distributed a water pump, farming equipment and seeds to the residents of Moco Moco Settlement Agriculture and Marketing Cooperative Society in the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo, Region 9.
Moco Moco Settlement is a small village of approximately 60 persons located aback of the Moco Moco Village. The settlement falls under the Lethem Municipality and is involved in small scale cash crop farming.
The items were distributed following a request by Chairman of the Cooperative Society, Ben Smith, who at a farmer’s symposium on Friday last highlighted issues the farmers face in the community and requested a water pump to provide relief to them.
Minister Adams-Yearwood, who was at the time attending the Regional Agriculture Commercial Exhibition (RACE), commended the residents for pushing agriculture in the community.
“You are doing a good job. I want to congratulate you and encourage you to make this community self-sufficient so that you can secure your own food.”
Though it is a new venture by the villagers, Minister Adams-Yearwood said that villages can learn from this small developing community. She also encouraged them to take advantage of other support programmes under the Ministry of Business and the Ministry of Social Protection.
Chairman Ben Smith commended the government for its continued support to his community.
