Roraima Airways answers President Ali’s call for cheaper hinterland airfares
– Slashes airfare by 7 per cent for all rehabilitated hinterland airstrips
Another local aviation company is responding to President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s call for reduced airfare to hinterland communities.
On Friday, Roraima Airways announced a seven per cent reduction in airfare to all rehabilitated hinterland airstrips, effective immediately.
Over the past five years, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) administration has invested significant resources to upgrade airfields in Regions One, Seven, Eight and Nine. In the last few days, President Ali commissioned two new airfields in Paramakatoi, Region Eight and Aishalton, Region Nine.

“When public investment improves safety and reliability, it is our responsibility to translate those gains into real benefits for the people”, said Capt. Gerry Gouveia Jr., Roraima’s Director of Aviation.

“The improved condition of these airstrips allows us to reduce operational costs, and we are passing those savings directly to the people who depend on air transport,” he added in a press release issued on Friday.
Roraima Airways has also confirmed that this same reduction will be automatically applied to every newly rehabilitated or newly constructed hinterland airstrip as they come online, ensuring a consistent, transparent, and nationwide pricing approach.
President Ali has announced a goal to cut hinterland airfares by 15%. Roraima Airways said it aims to make further reductions as infrastructure, efficiency, and operations improve.
Earlier this week, Jags Aviation, which is part of the BK Group of Companies, announced a reduction in ticket prices for flights to Paramakatoi and Aishalton. These new rates will take effect beginning on February 1, 2026.
