– GDF beaten 3-0 by Dem Amstel
DPI, Guyana, Saturday, July 7, 2018
The second leg of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League began last evening with a five-goal hammering of Victoria Kings FC at the hands a more skilled Fruta Conquerors team. The action kicked off at the Leonora Track and Field Centre with an early goal in the third minute by Dennis Edwards.
Not long after, into the eighth minute, Ryan Hackett smashed in the second goal of the evening for Fruta Conquerors, taking the lead to 2-0. It was clear that the Victoria had to no chance of stopping the attack by Fruta Conquerors as they conceded their third goal in the 21st minute, scored by Eon Alleyne.
The shaky defence by the Kings, would again in the fortieth minute, gave Eon Alleyne his second goal of the night making the score 4-0. Ryan Hackett found the back of the net again in the forty-fifth minute to make it 5-0 by the end of the first half. However, when play commenced in the second half, it seemed as though Kings went to the drawing board as their defence became robust, making it difficult on the Fruta Conquerors’ attacking force. While they did not score, they did not concede another goal.
In the second game of the night, defending champions Guyana Defence Force were outplayed and trounced by Den Amstel 3-0. The first half of the game was full of excitement with both teams having made good attempts to put their teams ahead but ended goalless. It was Gideon Payne of Den Amstel who struck early in the second half to put his team 1-0, scoring in the forty-eighth minute.
With time winding down, frustration got the best of the defending champions who gave away a penalty in the eighty-third minute which was netted by Delon Lanferman. Kevaughn Ward, not long after in the eighty-seventh minute, scored the third goal for Den Amstel which sealed off their 3-0 victory.
The action continues tomorrow at the same venue with a triple-header – Ann’s Grove versus Buxton; Cougars going up against Den Amstel and Milerock facing off with Western Tigers.
