Tender out for road repairs at Belle West Phase II – Min Indar

-encouraged residents to advantage of scholarships, vaccination

Residents of Belle West Phase II, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) will soon benefit from rehabilitated roads in their community.

He said residents had written to the Ministry expressing concerns about the dilapidated roads, and had requested assistance.

Minister Indar said the tender has already been advertised for the works.

“We have that tender out for the cross street when you come across the bridge and to the second street to the right. So, all of those potholes are going to be repaired.

That is the first set of works we are going to do here. So, I would say within one month you should see machines in here to start to do the work,” he said.

The deadline for the tender is May 25.

Speaking to DPI, residents hailed the Government’s timely response to their appeal.  Mr. Salim Rasheed said, “the road definitely bad because one day a man going home and fall and nearly drown and neighbour had to scramble he. When is school time, the children cannot come to school because their skin will nasty… We have to believe in him.

They say in a month time and we have to believe in him because they are the last final saying, so we have confidence they will develop our country and also our road.”

Another resident, Ms. Jacqueline Bonnester shared similar sentiments. “I feel good, because I really want the road for the children walk because they walk in mud and getting ground itch,” she said.

Minister Indar also commended Ms. Shazeela Nazir for contributing to her community’s development through the donation of a bus shed.

Additionally, he encouraged residents to take advantage of the Government’s 20,000 online scholarships programme. Through the Guyana Online Academy of Learning, five universities are offering 85 programmes to Guyanese. These are the University of the West Indies Open Campus, the University of the Southern Caribbean, the University of Applied Sciences, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the JAIN “Deemed To Be” University.

The Minister also appealed to the community to get vaccinated to combat the deadly COVID-19. He said he has already been immunised and the Government is sparing no effort to make the vaccines available to all eligible persons.
