The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security will be hosting a two-day exhibition to recognise women’s empowerment and resilience, as Guyana joins the rest of the world in celebrating International Women’s Day.
The event which is scheduled for March 6 to 8 is themed ‘WE LIFT – “Women’s Entrepreneurs: We lead, we innovate, we flourish together.” The occasion aims to highlight women in business, creative arts, food, beauty, wellness, and other industries.
Minister, Hon Dr. Vindhya Persaud on Wednesday said the general public is invited to the official launch on Saturday at 15:00 hours at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre and will continue on Sunday.
‘This event will bring together a number of women so that we celebrate the strive that women have made and we also applaud their successes and inspire other women to follow in their footsteps, so that they two can move to the point that we all want to see happen; empowerment, leadership, and utilising their skills to be innovative and allowing women across the world especially in our nation to flourish together.”
The highly-anticipated event promises to be spectacular with a lot to be displayed to benefit all participants.
“There will be many interactive sessions; we are bringing together people from the diplomatic community, various agencies, a number of stakeholders, civil society, and those persons who are passionate about women’s issues. We are asking you to interact with them and enjoy all the sessions that will allow all of us to speak out against many ills that are affecting women in our country today.
In addition to that, you would have the opportunity to benefit from takeaways, samples, giveaways, have a good massage or maybe have a discussion on beauty and wellness and to check out the work our women entrepreneurs have been involved in,” Minister Persaud added.
She said the event is part of the Ministry’s aim to facilitate women moving ahead, becoming employed, owning their own businesses, flourishing in microenterprise and accelerating into leadership positions.
“It’s exciting, it’s trendy, it’s something you don’t want to miss. Bring out that woman in your life, it could be your mother, it could be your sister, any woman who really plays an integral part in your life.”
While the event is opened to all, COVID-19 protocols will be observed.
International Women’s Day will be observed worldwide on March 8, under the theme “Choose to Challenge.” The Ministry’s WE LIFT initiative forms part of a month’s activity to promote the strength of women in Guyana.
