UK High Commissioner Calls on Foreign Minister
Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Dr. Karen Cummings and High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Greg Quinn, have expressed a common interest in further enhancing relations between the two States.
During a courtesy call today from High Commissioner Quinn, Minister Cummings expressed gratitude for the level of support Guyana has received from the UK and noted ongoing areas of collaboration, which include healthcare, security reform, and infrastructure among others.
Among other issues they discussed were the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) — European Union (EU) Economic Partnership Agreement, infrastructure development projects in Guyana being supported by the UK government, and the recent twinning of Georgetown and Aberdeen, Scotland.
Furthermore, both the High Commissioner and Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the operationalization of the Guyana-UK Air Services Agreement which was initialled in December 2018.
The British High Commission expressed his congratulations, as well as on behalf of UK Foreign Secretary The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, to the Foreign Minister on her recent appointment.
Guyana and the UK established diplomatic relations on May 26, 1966.
