5 Christmas deliveries for New Amsterdam Hospital
—Mothers receives hampers

Five beautiful and healthy newborns were delivered at the New Amsterdam Hospital on Christmas day.
Debra Douglas of Ulverston Village, East Berbice Corentyne was the first to give birth to a baby girl via caesarian section at 9:30am on Christmas day. Douglas described the birth of her third child and only daughter on Christmas day as a “blessing”.
The second child was born to first-time mother Mamta Baijnauth, 20, of Albion who was overjoyed with emotion. She too gave birth to her daughter at 12:45pm. Baijnauth was all smiles as she thanked the nursing staff and doctors who ensured her delivery was very comfortable.
“I am beyond happy, I was looking forward to seeing my daughter but to hold her in my arms this feels so amazing. Now that I have a Christmas baby, every year going forward I have something tremendous to celebrate.”
The third child and fourth babies – both girls – were born to Paramdei Emanuel of Rosignol, Region 5 at 5:25pm and Nirmala Gopaul of Lot 1B, Portuguese Quarter, Port Mourant at 7:40pm respectively.
This was followed by the delivery of the last baby; a king among the queens. A baby boy was born to Shenika Charles, his arrival came less than an hour before midnight at 11:10pm.
The mothers thanked the staff at the New Amsterdam Hospital especially the doctors and nurses who worked with them during their deliveries.
Meanwhile, On December 25 and 26, a team of doctors and nurses led by Medical Superintendent Dr. Vasana Henry visited the mothers and distributed special gifts to the mothers and their babies on behalf of the East Berbice-Corentyne Regional Health Services department.
