Debra Douglas of Ulverston Village, East Berbice Corentyne was the first to give birth to a baby girl via caesarian section at 9:30am on Christmas day. Douglas described the birth of her third child and only daughter on Christmas day as a “blessing”.

The second child was born to first-time mother Mamta Baijnauth, 20, of Albion who was overjoyed with emotion. She too gave birth to her daughter at 12:45pm. Baijnauth was all smiles as she thanked the nursing staff and doctors who ensured her delivery was very comfortable.

“I am beyond happy, I was looking forward to seeing my daughter but to hold her in my arms this feels so amazing. Now that I have a Christmas baby, every year going forward I have something tremendous to celebrate.”

The third child and fourth babies – both girls – were born to Paramdei Emanuel of Rosignol, Region 5 at 5:25pm and Nirmala Gopaul of Lot 1B, Portuguese Quarter, Port Mourant at 7:40pm respectively.

This was followed by the delivery of the last baby; a king among the queens. A baby boy was born to Shenika Charles, his arrival came less than an hour before midnight at 11:10pm.

The mothers thanked the staff at the New Amsterdam Hospital especially the doctors and nurses who worked with them during their deliveries.
