“Hosting the cabinet meeting at the Municipality of Bartica, is a first for us. Bartica is just three years old as a town so it’s a milestone” stated Mayor of Bartica Gifford Marshall as the township welcomed the ninth “Government comes to you” outreach.

The Mayor spoke with the Department of Public Information (DPI) earlier on Tuesday, as His Excellency, President David Granger, Prime Minster Moses Nagamootoo and other cabinet ministers arrived for their second weekly cabinet meeting hosted outside of capital city.

Today’s cabinet meeting was held at the at the Bartica Town Hall, in Region Seven

Before the meeting began, Minister of Indigenous Peoples Affairs, Sydney Allicock, said he was happy to be in the region to speak with residents on matters of interest to them.

“I’m looking forward to a bigger plan of action …this is part of the hinterland and we expect a lot of questions about land development and we are anticipating a healthy discussion.”

Minister Allicock said he is open to receiving advice from residents.

For his part, Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton, was pleased with the turn out and welcome given. “I am also looking forward to our cabinet meeting in Bartica,” he stated.

Minister of Health, Volda Lawrence noted that the transformation in Bartica was clearly evident. “It’s good to be in Bartica. Coming to Bartica now, who have been coming over the years can see the development, you know we are going somewhere as a country.”

Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan, was also happy with the development in the new township. “The municipality of Bartica is one of the success stories of this government.” he acknowledged.

Bartica was granted township status in 2016.

It is one of four new townships under the Coalition Government, which is fulfilling a larger vision of establishing a capital town in each of the ten administrative regions of Guyana. The others towns are; Lethem, Region 9, Mahdia, Region 8, and Mabaruma in Reg 1.
