Citizens’ Report article inaccurate -Ministry of the Presidency calls for a retraction, correction

Georgetown, Guyana – (October 21, 2016) The Ministry of the Presidency (MOTP) categorically states that the article appearing in the online news site, Citizens’ Report, headlined “APNU+AFC appoints Manniram Prashad as Honorary Consul to Philippines” is inaccurate and is calling for an immediate retraction.

The Ministry is disappointed that such a misleading report could be published, despite the fact that an announcement was made in the presence of other members of the media corps at this week’s Post Cabinet Press Briefing, held earlier today.

Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon said that the Government of Guyana has given its approval to the request made by the Government of the Philippines for Mr. Manniram Prashad to be appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Philippines to Guyana.

At no time did the Minister say that the Government of Guyana made such an appointment.

The Ministry of the Presidency calls for an immediate correction and retraction of this headline and appeals to the media corps to make accuracy their watchword when writing their reports. While the Government of Guyana promotes and supports press freedoms, it is important that the media treat responsibly, their role to provide accurate information to the members of the public.
