DPI, Guyana, Monday, August 26, 2019

Residents of Charlestown/Albouystown and Norton Street are now enjoying a cleaner, safer city. Several residents expressed their satisfaction with the work the Coalition Government has been consistently doing over the last 4 years.

Paul Punch, a resident of Albouystown/Charlestown told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that he believes the administration is taking unparalleled action in the development of the lives of all Guyanese.

“The government is trying. I mean everything coming to come. Remember, everything can’t happen all one time. We have to give them time but as I am saying, everything coming to come maybe in the next term they are going to do more,” Punch said.

He further added that given the circumstances the government met when taking office, citizens should exercise patience to experience real development.

Marlyn Cole, also from Albouystown/Charlestown area told DPI that it has been over fifteen years since the drains have last been properly cleaned. “Before it was bad, the drains were being cleaned, now that this government has come into power, I see that they’re doing something, something good,” Cole added.

Arnold Wilson, of Albouystown/Charlestown, said “things getting better and I appreciate everything the government’s doing right now.”

Rhonda Salmon, a resident of Norton Street, said there has been lots of improvement in the drainage networks in her area.

“I have seen a lot of improvement. First of all, the drainage system in Norton Street, before the government came in when it rained, we had a lot of flooding. People couldn’t come out of their yards and you would have to build bridges for them to walk on,” Salmon explained.

One Wortmanville resident, 80-year-old Elaine Salmon said that this is the first time in all her years that Wortmanville has experienced such a transformation. “Well, [I’ve seen] much improvement because first when the rain fell,  the yards and the trenchs quickly flooded… now it’s much improved,Salmon noted.

Rudolph Gentle, also from Norton Street, explained that “the area has been improved now and overall it’s great to see what the government is doing.”
