Doctors to benefit from session by Medical Council

The Medical Council of Guyana is hosting yet another Continuing Medical Education (CME) session for medical doctors on Sunday, August 19, 2018. The theme under which these sessions will be conducted is “Modern and technological advances in medicine”

The one-day session is scheduled to be facilitated at the National Cultural Centre’s main Auditorium and is opened to practising medical physicians throughout Guyana.

Doctors will benefit from medical education content such as the minimally invasive approach to general surgery in Guyana presented by Dr. Ravi Motielall, MBBS; a modern approach to common pediatric fractures by Dr. Akintunde Watson MBBS; Surgical intervention to metabolic syndrome by Dr. Alfred Dawes MBBS; DM General Surgery and Rhythm of the heart, essentials of cardiac electrophysiology by Dr. Mahendra Carpen MBBS and DM internal medicine.

This training session will afford those participating to earn four credits which will be awarded at the end of the session. CME training sessions serve to maintain, develop and increase the knowledge, skills and professional performance of a physician.

These skills, when acquired are used to provide services for patients, the public, and the profession. The content of CME is the body of knowledge and skills generally recognised and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine and the provision of health care to the public.

According to the Medical Council of Guyana, a physician shall continue to study, apply, and advance scientific knowledge, maintain a commitment to medical education, make relevant information available to patients, colleagues, and the public. They are also to obtain consultation, and use the talents of other health professionals when indicated.

Pre-registration fee for Sunday’s CME session is $3,500 and closes on Friday at noon. Medical Doctors interested in attending these sessions are asked to kindly make payments to MCOG ACCT 652-350-0 OR POS and present copy of the receipt when completing pre-registration. Those registering on the day of the CME can only pay cash.
