Efforts in place to keep Region Two COVID-19 free

Region Two, Pomeroon-Supenaam is one of three regions in Guyana where no confirmed case of COVID-19 has been recorded.
Although this region can be considered a gateway to Region One’s subdistrict Moruca; where several positive COVID-19 cases were recorded within a week and is one of the entry points from neighbouring Venezuela; the plan is to maintain this district’s COVID-19-free status.
On Wednesday, Regional Health Officer of Region Two, Dr. Afarah Khan disclosed that screening and sanitisation efforts are ongoing throughout the region.
“So far, we have introduced a strong screening system across different areas in the region, including the Supenaam ferry, government buildings and all health facilities across the region,” she explained.
Dr. Khan who is also the Co-Chairman of the Regional Health Emergency Committee shred that the committee meets every forty-eight hours to discuss and make decisions as it relates to the Health Order issued by the Ministry of Public Health.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Karen Gordon-Boyle posited that the current statistics coming out of Region Two confirms that with adherence by all to the emergency guidelines the disease can be contained.
