Eleven Regional Health Workers recognised for outstanding work

Eleven regional healthcare providers were honoured for their continuous commitment and hard work. This initiative was undertaken by the Regional Health Services Department of the Ministry of Public Health.
The department not only recognised senior workers but those who have gone beyond the call of duty to ensure persons have access to much-needed healthcare services despite geographic location.
Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings noted within the healthcare system, each staff member has a critical role to play in the delivery of health services in each region.
“It is imperative that each officer in the regional health department in the respective regions recognise that they all have a major responsibility to provide optimum service to each person who requires it.” Minister Cummings said
Those recognised are as follows:
Community Health Worker of Barima-Waini, Patricia Francis,
Nursing Assistant of Pomeroon-Supenaam, Velma Garraway,
Laboratory Technician of West Demerara-Essequibo Islands, Denise London,
Government Medical Officer of Demerara-Mahaica, Dr. Hazeline Smith-Lowe,
Government Medical Officer of Demerara-Mahaica, Dr. Fazeeda Singh,
Auxillary staff of Mahaica-Berbice, Camille Semple,
X-Ray Technician of East Berbice, Corentyne, Vanessa Vandenburg,
Dentex of Cuyuni-Mazaruni, Sylvester Edwards,
Nurse/Midwife of Potaro-Siparuni, Sade Lewis,
Medex of Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo, Linsky Henery,
Dentex of Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice, Shenesa Velloza,
Minister Cummings reminded the awardees that watchwords for their service must always be ‘efficient and effective’.
Director of Regional and Clinical Services at the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Kay Shako noted that recognition and reward of staff serve to motivate their efforts. Further, she added that this recognition should encompass staff from department and regions of the health sector.
“We have persons working in the different spheres of health and they are performing well. We need to recognise them. If we can’t readily give them an increase in salary then there needs to be something that the Ministry of Public Health could do for them to feel appreciated, honoured and admired.” Dr. Shako explained
