Family and friends gather to celebrate Guyana’ milestone

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, February 23, 2020

As floats proceeded down the Mash route, scores of persons secured coveted spots at the Botanical Gardens to view the floats while also enjoying valuable family time.

Kevin Warren and his family were among those enjoying what the day had to offer.

“This day means so much to us as people…it shows how far we have come as a nation and as a people. So, it is imperative for us to love each other regardless of race or religion… unite as one people, one nation because we all have one destiny,” he said

Enjoying a picnic with her family members, Lydia Duncan related they had managed to secure their usual spot in the Gardens.

The location she noted has many good memories for them and with Guyana observing its 50th Republic anniversary, this milestone adds something special to their outing.

“Today means a lot to me and many others, you know…to see the country come this far. It is so good to be able to witness this,” she said.

Like Duncan, Roland John Gomes and his family were also hanging out in the Gardens to have fun while taking breaks from viewing the colourful costume and float parade.

“We are a great country with great people and so I knew that it is important for us to come out and support because that is what we need the most- to be united and loving towards each other,” he said.

This year’s Mashramani celebrations are being held under the theme, “Guyana Together; Reflect, Celebrate, Transform”.
