Fatal workplace accident on the East Coast Demerara

Reports reaching the Ministry of Labour indicate that there has been a fatal workplace accident of a 69-year old Engineer, Mr. Keith Scipio, after he reportedly fell from the fourth floor of a construction site at Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara.

This accident occurred between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020.

The Ministry of Labour, Occupational Safety and Health Department (OSH), is conducting an independent and thorough investigation into the circumstances of this accident.

In this regard, arrangements are being made to visit the accident site, and all contractors and sub-contractors. It is expected that a report will be prepared which will include recommendations and preventative measures.

The Minister of Labour is deeply disturbed about the recent accident and offers condolences to the family of the deceased.
