Housing Ministry delivers 91 land titles, transports in Region Two

-in fulfilment of President Ali’s promise
-regional housing office to be expanded
-more development to come

The Ministry of Housing and Water, today, delivered over 90 land titles and transports to Pomeroon-Supenaam (Region Two) residents, following a promise President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali made to them during an outreach there last Wednesday.

Ministers Hon. Collin Croal and Hon. Susan Rodrigues returned to the Region today to distribute the much longed-for documents.

One of the recipients is presented with a land title by Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal

“As a result of His Excellency’s intervention, within four working days, we have arrived at this point where we will be distributing about 80 land titles [and transports],” Minister Croal said.

The President, a former Housing Minister from 2009-2015, has helmed an aggressive housing push since taking office in August.

Minister Croal said today’s activity was tangible evidence of President Ali’s commitment to fulfilling his manifesto promise to provide housing for the nation.

Much more is in store for Region Two in 2021. President Ali recently announced that 600 new, serviced house lots would be set up in the Region during the first quarter of the year.

Further, in keeping with the Ministry’s objective to provide efficient, timely and sustainable housing solutions for all Guyanese, the Region Two Regional Housing Office at the Regional Democratic Council will be expanded. This has already been streamlined through discussions with the Regional Chairperson, Ms. Vilma Da Silva.

Minister Croal added that the expected housing boom will lead to other spin-off benefits.

“With all of that it also means that you will have increased employment. Once you have construction there is a huge spin-off for regions like yours with skilled persons…like masons [and] persons in the trucking industry. All will benefit and that is why we have this exercise today.”

Meanwhile, Minister Rodrigues said now is the time for promises made on the hustings to be fulfilled. There will be no delay in providing service to Guyanese.

“Now that we are in Government the ‘gyaff’ is over and it is time for us to deliver on our commitments.”

The PPP/C wants to cut red tape and delays so that Guyanese could become homeowners sooner. Minister Rodrigues urged the recipients to make the best of their allocations.

She added that the Government is also designing a model housing sector to make it more attractive for Guyanese in the diaspora to return.

Meanwhile, Ms. Suniti Bacchus, a 34-year-old mother of three, is relieved she can now become a homeowner.

“I feel very happy obtaining my title…It will be much help for me and my kids… [I] will build a house on it and we will be happy with it.”  The woman said she had been waiting three years to receive her title.

“I’m really happy. It’s been six years I’m waiting on this and now I can really afford to do something on my land,” Ms. Rashanna Ally told DPI.

“I live with my mother-in-law, so at least now owning my own land and getting my own home, my children them also is going to be benefit of this and getting a better future for this also.”

Both mothers have titled lands in Onderneeming awaiting transformation.

“We feel real nice that we get through because for so much year we never own at least a place…We gon start build we house pon it whatever we can afford to do, mek certain we maintain it.” Mr. Kumar Jaipaul said.

He has been allocated a house lot in Suddie.
